Gilneas City: The Worgen Starting Experience (1-5)

The second race introduced to World of Warcraft in the Cataclysm expansion is the worgen of Gilneas. For years the kingdom of Gilneas has been hiding behind The Greymane Wall, a fortified gate that would protect them from threats from the outside. It has recently been shattered with the coming of the cataclysm and the people who once lived there are no longer as human as they used to be. I am playing through this on a male worgen mage called Blackeye and on my worgen druid named Yiffie. I had to play through it twice to get a hang of everything that happened.

As with the trolls, there is a great cinematic in the beginning but without any voice-over.

You start out before the cataclysm and before you became a worgen. You are just an ordinary human, a citizen of Gilneas City. However, the kingdom is not what it used to be. People have been murdered on the streets by strange creatures.

You start in the Market Square. As you start out, Prince Liam Greymane greets you and asks you to look for one of his men. As you find the soldier it turns out that he has been killed as well and you see claw markings on his body. As you examine the body you hear sounds of struggle and return back to find that Liam Greymane and his men are fighting worgen.

Liam Greymane asks me to kills some of the worgen and evacuate some of the citizens of the square. The citizens are evacuated by opening doors in the surrounding houses and getting out the civilians inside. Gwen Armstead, a female warrior, will be leading the evacuation and she requests that I collect some supplies from the square as well.

After having killed the worgen, evacuated the villagers and bringing the supplies to Gwen, Liam sends me to meet with Gwen near the bridge in the Military District. He even tells me it's an order, so I guess I have to do as he says.

When I meet Gwen Armstead again she tells me that she is almost ready to evacuate the civilians and she says that my class-trainer has requested that I speak to her. After speaking to the class-trainer and learning your first spell you are sent to report to King Genn Greymane himself.

Genn Greymane has a plan. He plans on rescueing his old friend Darius Crowley from Stoneward Prison as he wants all the allies he can get. This is much to the dismay of Lord Godfrey who is with Greymane. Crowley once lead a rebellion against Greymane but failed and was thrown in prison. However, in these times noone should stand alone. He also wants me to kill a bunch of worgen while I'm at it. I find Crowley fighting off a lot of worgen atop the prison with his bare hands. He's actually cleaving with his bare hands, Saurfang could learn something from him. He is with Tobias Mistmantle, Sean Dempsey and Vincent Hersham.

Crowley wants me to help him fend off the worgen for two minutes. Once that is done he accepts to helping Greymane, despite their differences. He also tells me that there is a rebel armory and supply-cellar in the city itself. This can prove useful in their fight. I report back to Greymane after having killed the five worgen and he sends me off to find Josiah Avery in this rebel cellar.

When I find Avery he tells me to stay back. When I approach him he turns into a worgen and charges at me. He gives me a scratch, which turns up as a debuff. He is shot by Lorna Crowley, the daughter of Darius. She tells me that even though the streets might seem safe they really aren't. There are lurkers out there that cannot be seen. She gives me a mastiff dog and sends me out to find and kill these worgen lurkers. Once they're dead, I return to her.

Greymane has retreated to the plaza outside the cellar now. He tells me that they are ready to fire cannon into the Military Quarter but that they cannot do it due to a civilian being left behind. This civilian is not just any civilian but he is the royal alchemist, Krennan Aranas. He might prove to be important later on so he must be saved! Greymane puts you on a horse and sends you to get Aranas.

When I return Aranas, Crowley tells me that his men are already dispatched at the Cathedral in the middle of the city. He tells me to join him if I want to. He is riding to the cathedral and along the way trying to round up as many worgen as possible to make way for an evacuation of the civilians. I join him on his horse and by throwing a torch at the worgen we manage to round 50 of them up before we arrive at the cathedral where we meet with Tobias Mistmantle.

Tobias Mistmantle tells me that the worgen we rounded up are heading towards the cathedral. I grab a cannon and prepare to blast some worgen-ass! After killing 100 worgen with the cannon I head into the cathedral after Tobias has told me that the cathedral is safer to fight in than out here.

Inside I find Crowley who tells me to kill even more worgen. The cathedral is under siege and there are worgen everywhere inside the cathedral so it's no big job to find ten of those and kill them. Once that is done, it seems like there will be a movie where your character turns into a worgen. After this, you wake up in Duskhaven as a worgen..
